Schenker Korea

We welcome Mr. Ralf MÜLLER, General Manager, International Business & Development

To know about Schenker, it is important to know a definition of logistics. Logistics is not only simple meaning(delivery), but also every process from delivery to packing and installation. On the basis of definition, Schenker offer three services ; service connecting between buyer and merchandiser, logistics service, service for customers. 130 years ago, Schenker which has there thoughts about logistics was founded in Wien, Austria by Gottfried Schenker. And then it founded many branches in the world and was chosen in Olympics by transportation company ; 1972 München Olympics, 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. Since it advanced into Asia market 'Hong Kong', it has made branch in Korea and Japan. These days, BAX Global Japan which is a international transportation company and has a headquarter in U.S.A. and Schenker-Seino were merged, so Schenker's advance is remarkable. With this development of Schenker, its sale has been rising twice in the five years. Schenker made a branch in Korea in 1970. But, now it is a dependent company "Schenker Korea" since 2003. Schenker Korea has developed rapidly afterwards. And it thought Incheon international airport and Songdo free trade zone of heart of northeast logistics. So it founds Korea Logistics Center. Schenker has expectation about KLC because it makes rapid transportation from Seoul to Incheon and from Incheon port to Incheon international airport.

In Schenker, there are four main services-that is-Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Global Project and Special projects(Fairs & Exhibition).
First, this is an Air freight part. The Schenker company is aimed to be on time for customer's service. There are three parts in Air freight. First one is Customized global concepts. In this part, the Schenker provides customers it by using Schenker aeroparts. And then it is Perfection born from experience by using Schenker marienparts. Last one is Expertise to shape the future by using Schenker skybridge.
It can take from 1 day to 6 days.( it depends on charge)
Second, this is an Ocean freight. There are two parts. First one is transportation by using containers to go to Worldwide. In Korea, it especially works at Incheon and Busan. Also, the Schenker offers some unique transportation. For example, the company can delivery from Korea to North america. And then it provides "Ocean&Air" services through Vancouver. Even the company does labelling work, marking and warehousing etc.
Third, this is a Global project. The goal is "whenever your business goes-we're there for you". This part is formed by four steps. First step is transport analyse. Second step is planning and consultation. Third step is order processing. Last step is documentation and information. The Schenker company provides good services and good quality on time by using its own global network. Also, There are five parts in this service. They are "Power, water & facilities, Oil & gas, Petrochemical and chemical industry, Heavy industry and Civil construction projects."
At last, these are special projects-that is-Fairs & Exhibition. For instance, the Schenker company provided BMW moving cars and safekeeping them in 2007. The Art show held in Philippine. It was third time. Before this show, the Schenker offered to BMW services in Indonesia and Malaysia. Also, the Schenker is an official exclusive handling agent for australian air show since 1992. The Schenker was chosen not only handling agent, but also event organizer.
Besides, there are Pan-Asia and Transpacific services in Schenker Korea. The Pan-Asia project is connecting system from Asia(Korea, Singapore, Japan and China) to Pan(Australia and New Zealand). In this project, there are air freight, ocean freight, warehousing, trucking, moving, trade lift service and so on. And the Transpacific is focused on North america's market. The Schenker Korea thinks that that market is really important. Because there are potential and capability in North america market.

Actually I didn't know about that company before. However, through this class I could searched some information about that company. Through this homework, I knew logisitics and some handling part. Also, we could meet somebody who works at Schenker Korea. I was really happy and glad. I think it is first time to meet those people in my university life. It was very helpful for me and other people, I think. And then I'm not sure that I have another chance like as this in the future. It was a really good experience for me. Thank you so much for my partner, professors and Ralf Mueller. (Miss Kim)

Thanks to this chance to make a presentation about Schenker, I knew the importance of logistics. Actually I am interested in Messe and sales in abroad, so it is beneficial for me to have some information about Messe and Business of foreign company. As the world becomes the one, freight is important to connect between buyer and merchandiser. Therefore, logistics of Korea will have a bright prospect in the future because Korea tries to import and export in the field of many things. Ralf Müller, Schenker's General Manager, who visited University of Incheon in order to introduce Schenker is very comfortable and practical to students. In addition to he asked to students about their futures and experiences. So his seminar had good atmosphere. Most students want to know about Korean Logistics Center, which is founded in Incheon free trade zone and has an aim to be a center of northeast Asia. For this question, he said to us that Incheon has development possibility in northeast Asia.

This class is very helpful for me and my classmate because we can meet CEO of foreign company which we want to enter. Thank you for Hye Na, professor, Ralf Müller and classmates who listen carefully our presentation . (Miss Min)
